Funding Priorities In its consideration of grant requests, As You Sow will give priority to proposals in the following areas:
- Education of consumers about the risks of toxic exposure and their right to know what goes into consumer products.
- Toxics education and reduction in minority communities.
- Enforcement of local, state, or federal consumer and environment-related laws.
- Education of youth on environmental issues.
- Related areas will be considered on a case-by-case basis but the proposal must generally have an environmental enforcement or education component.
Geographic Limitation As You Sow’s grantmaking program is primarily funded by enforcement of California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act (“Proposition 65”). Accordingly, As You Sow gives priority to proposals that will substantially benefit citizens of California through neighborhood, regional, or statewide projects. As You Sow will also give consideration to proposals from organizations outside the state if the project or organization has a California emphasis or component.
Funding Levels As You Sow is a small foundation with limited resources. We are engaged in building a long-term source of stable funding. The grants are generally in the range of $5,000-$10,000.
