Similarly to J&J, As You Sow and other shareholders filed a resolution at Avon in 2005 calling on the company to report on the status of their use of chemicals banned by EU. Unlike J&J – Avon would not meet with shareholders on this issue and consequently shareholders did not withdraw the resolution. Avon responded in their 2006 proxy statement – informing shareholders that its cosmetics products now comply fully with the provisions of the EU cosmetics directive "wherever they are sold in the world."
