The uber efficient Toyota Prius was up until very recently the go-to car for drivers looking to protect the planet and save some cash via its efficient hybrid drivetrain. As environmentalists pushed for zero emission vehicles, Toyota turned towards the distant promise of fuel cell vehicles despite the rest of the automotive industry, led by Tesla, opting for battery electric vehicles.
