EL CERRITO, CA—July 29, 2025— Last week, following shareholder engagement, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Inc. has announced its intention to set a new single-use plastics reduction goal for U.S. franchise operations. The commitment follows the filing of a shareholder resolution by As You Sow, which was withdrawn ahead of Wyndham’s May annual general meeting after productive dialogue led to the company’s agreement to set a new single-use plastics reduction target.

“Wyndham’s commitment marks a meaningful step forward in addressing the plastic pollution crisis,” said Kelly McBee, Circular Economy Manager at As You Sow. “Reducing plastic use is widely recognized as the most effective way to combat plastic pollution. We commend Wyndham for prioritizing action at the source.”

Wyndham will announce a time-bound single-use plastic reduction goal for U.S. franchise operations by the third quarter of 2026. This new goal will build upon earlier commitments by the company to eliminate single-use plastics through new preparations for success, including conducting an assessment of its current use of single-use plastics to identify the most significant sources and transparently reporting. Achievement of the goal will likely be led by the company’s ongoing transition from single-use plastic amenity bottles to bulk amenity dispensers.

“We’ve seen a strong trend of hospitality companies stepping up on plastic action, thanks in part to sustained investor engagement,” said McBee. With this move, Wyndham joins industry peers Hilton, Marriott, and Choice in recent collaborations with shareholders to address exposure to risks from plastic pollution.

Wyndham’s action comes at a pivotal moment, as nations work toward a landmark global plastics treaty to curb plastic pollution worldwide. This commitment reflects the growing urgency—and opportunity—for companies to align with international efforts and take meaningful steps to take action on plastic pollution.
