Salespeople shopped BYD products from customer to customer in suitcases, building the business from the ground up. Its expertise in energy storage solutions formed the foundation for its current lineup of plug-in vehicles, electric fleet vehicles, solar panels, and a full line of stationary energy storage products. BYD is seen by many as the “Tesla of China,” selling more plug-in vehicles than any other company in the world in 2016 and 2017, with an ever-increasing global footprint. The gem of the company is perhaps its home town of Shenzhen, China, where all of the 16,000 transit buses and 99%+ of the taxis have been converted to battery electric vehicles. In total, BYD has sold more than 50,000 electric buses to customers around the world.
