EL CERRITO, CALIFORNIA— May 7, 2025 – PulteGroup released shareholder voting results today from its 2025 annual general meeting. Nearly a quarter (23.8%) of independent shareholders voted in support of a proposal filed by shareholder representative As You Sow asking the Company to adopt Paris-aligned greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.

The shareholder proposal raises concern that PulteGroup may be falling behind competitors that sell more efficient homes; may be unprepared for greater property damage and operational delays from increasingly severe, climate-related weather events; and unprepared for state and local regulations requiring more climate friendly homes. The Company has not disclosed how it will address these climate-related risks or reduce its full value chain emissions.

“The real estate sector is at the center of the climate crisis,” said Danielle Fugere, President & Chief Counsel of As You Sow. “The home building industry has a tremendous stake in helping to avoid a warming world. By building low or zero emissions homes, and supporting stronger climate policies, the Company signals to investors that it is prepared for decarbonization, is competitive in its product offerings, and is taking responsibility to reduce its own climate emissions.”

PulteGroup, one of the largest residential home builders in the U.S., builds and sells single and multi-family homes in 26 states. Many of those states are facing climate-related harm from water shortages and heatwaves, more frequent and intense storms, and higher energy costs to heat and cool their homes. These challenges are reshaping homeowner needs, regulatory policies, and market expectations.

“Consumers want homes that pay annual dividends through lower utility bills,” said Kelly Poole, Climate and Energy Coordinator at As You Sow. “From rooftop solar, to high efficiency windows and insulation, to more efficient heating and cooling, customers are seeking homes that are safer and keep more money in their pockets. There is a critical business opportunity in the green building market and investors are looking to Lennar to demonstrate leadership.”

The buildings sector accounts for 36% of total U.S. emissions—with homes representing over half of this amount. The construction process and materials used in building homes emit significant greenhouse emissions. Homes that lack energy-efficient systems also emit more emissions, creating a harmful feedback loop, while hitting consumer pocketbooks hard
